Mata Mata: helemaal kapot gaan tijdens de Wairere Falls Track

Rick stelde me tijdens deze track de vraag: “Vind je het eigenlijk wel leuk om tracks te doen?” Waarom hij dat vroeg? Terwijl hij met het gemak van Olympisch atleet naar boven wandelde moest ik op een gegeven moment bij elke steen uitpuffen. Vind ik wandelen leuk? Absoluut! Mijn lichaam? Not so much, haha!

Uiteindelijk haalden we wel samen de top, alwaar we getrakteerd werden op een waterval die naar boven waaide. Echt super leuk..

Maar laten we beginnen bij het begin. Rick en ik besloten met de auto af te reizen naar Mata Mata, een klein dorpje dichtbij Hobbiton in de buurt. Om daar de volgende dag op tijd te zijn besloten we dus een nachtje te slapen in Mata Mata. Toen we een beetje aan het kijken waren wat we in de buurt konden doen, stuitten we op de Wairere Falls Track.

De track begon nog leuk. Zo kwamen we langs stenen, bruggetjes en allerlei ander moois.

Zelfs ik ging nog even op de foto. Maar na deze foto ging het voor mij bergafwaarts, als in: Rick liep vrolijk door terwijl ik voelde dat mijn longen uit mijn lijf wilde knappen. Vloekend waar dat uitzicht op die waterval nou bleef worstelde ik mezelf onderstaande trap op. Die lijkt op deze foto niet zo indrukwekkend, maar dat komt omdat niet de hele trap op de foto staat:

Maar goed, gelukkig was daar eindelijk dan de waterval, ofwel de Wairere Falls:

Hier hebben we even een tijdje gezeten. Daarna had ik weer genoeg moed (en energie) verzameld om verder naar boven te gaan.

Eenmaal boven werden we getrakteerd op een waterval die door de sterke wind naar boven waaide. Dus terwijl ik blij was eindelijk boven te zijn zodat we konden genieten van het uitzicht stonden we opgepropt in een hoekje waar we het minst nat werden. Beetje balen, ook al konden we er ook wel weer om lachen.

Na een paar foto’s zijn we dus maar weer naar beneden gegaan en naar ons motel gereden. Eenmaal bij het motel dropten we onze spullen en propten we ons vol in een Indiaas restaurant. En gingen we op tijd naar bed want Hobbiton stond de volgende dag op de planning!
