Whakatāne: White Island tour

White Island, ook wel Whaakari genoemd, is een actieve vulkaan die 49 kilometer van de kust afligt. Om daar te komen waren we (het groepje mensen waarmee ik ging) dus ook wel even onderweg.

Omdat het grootste deel van deze vulkaan onder water ligt hadden we makkelijk toegang tot de krater. Dit was voor mij de allereerste keer ooit dat ik een vulkaan bezocht and it was worth it. Al heb ik wel de helft van de uitleg gemist, omdat de hoeveelheid zwavel die aanwezig was mijn ogen ongecontroleerd lieten tranen. Desalniettemin was het een hele interessante tour, en ook de tocht over zee was mooi. Bekijk hieronder de foto’s:
