Het aftellen is begonnen…

In mijn hoofd is het een warboel. Is alles nu echt geregeld? Heb ik wel aan alles gedacht? Een rampscenario voltrekt zich in mijn hoofd. Ondertussen kijk ik alweer een paar minuten apathisch naar mijn beeldscherm. Normaal kost het me geen enkele moeite wat op papier -of in dit geval een scherm- te zetten, maar nu blijven mijn vingers stil op het toetsenbord liggen.

Vroeger zag ik nooit beren op de weg. Ik ging gewoon en kwam er vanzelf achter of het goed zou gaan (ging het ook). Maar nu, op 28-jarige leeftijd, ben ik echt een total pussy. Waarom? Geen idee. Misschien is dit iets wat gewoon bij ouder worden hoort?

Hoe dan ook, het is bijna zover. Het afscheid is genomen, de backpack staat klaar (weliswaar nog leeg. Eens een uitsteller, altijd een uitsteller) en nu is het gewoon een kwestie van wachten. Wachten op het grote onbekende.

Het klinkt natuurlijk nu alsof ik een derdewereldland ga bezoeken, maar het grote onbekende waar ik naar toe ga is Nieuw-Zeeland. Een land waar ik heel lang over -in het geheim- heb gedroomd. Nu kan ik hier een heel romantisch verhaal vertellen over waarom ik zo graag naar Nieuw-Zeeland toe wil, maar eigenlijk is er niks romantisch aan. Toen ik jong was keek ik met veel plezier naar The Lord of the Rings films, en sindsdien bestaat de wens om naar Nieuw-Zeeland te gaan.

En jaren later is het eindelijk zover. Ik ga gewoon naar Nieuw-Zeeland! Het besef ontbreekt nog, maar de wil is er. En misschien komt het besef pas in het vliegtuig, ook goed.

Ik ga hard mijn best doen om mooie reisverhalen voor jullie te schrijven, en deze te voorzien van mooie foto’s (weer even die fotografie-skills van mij oppoetsen).
